Roberto Cavalli was born in Florence in 1940 and he was the grandson of the painter Giuseppe Rossi, a leading exponent of the Macchiaioli artistic movement. Cavalli graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and soon after that he started a printing house, patenting an innovative method for printing on leather.
