Innovative and bold; Spanx was launched in 2000 by Sara Blakely, who discovered that there was a huge lack of options of hosiery and pantyhose for shapely women. Spanx would go on to reinvent ladies shapewear, with Oprah Winfrey praising the body-shaping brand in their first year, shooting them to fame. Spanx became loved by celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyra Banks and Sir Richard Branson, which kickstarted the Spanx by Sara Blakely Foundation. The foundation now invests millions into empowering women through educational, entrepreneurial and artistic programs including a $1million donation to Oprah’s Leadership Academy Foundation in South Africa. The brand has since evolved from pantyhose to an empire of bras, leggings, maternity and mens undershirts. With their swift expansion, Spanx opened their first physical store in New York’s Bloomingdales in 2011 and went on to grace the cover of Forbes magazine in 2012 as the youngest self-made female billionaire.
