Fashion, for you, is...
...Partly a visual representation of my personality as well as the way I dress to cover my body as someone who wears the hijab.
When and how did you start advocating for sustainability?
I'd say I took interest in advocating for sustainability after speaking at the Middle East Youth Expo in Abu Dhabi last year. I gave a speech on modest fashion and sustainability and my views and intentions moving forward. I met so many incredible people working in that space to promote ethical fashion which really inspired me to do more with the platform I have.
How do you balance your love for fashion and commitment to ethical consumption?
I try to balance my love for fashion and ethical consumption by living a more minimalist lifestyle (I still have a long way to go!). I believe everything starts with intention and my intention is to do better, shop less and look for sustainable options when and where I can. As a creative, having less options forces you to become more creative in your style which, for me, is more fashion forward than following trends.
What is your can't-live-without skincare product?
My skin is quite sensitive which is why I opt for organic cottons and keep my daily skincare routine pretty simple. Outside of my everyday routine, if I find that a spot is being stubborn, I use the Sarah Chapman Spot Stickers to hold me back from touching it!
How do you practice sustainability in your everyday life?
I try to practice sustainability in my daily life by recycling at home, trying to shop sustainably for both food and fashion when I can and donating preloved clothes.
What will you be talking about at Dubai Expo 2020?
I recorded a podcast for Dubai Expo titled 'What will we wear?' but I'll be speaking at Marketing Mania on the panel 'Influencer Insights and Social Commerce' and at The Marketing Society on the panel 'Trailblazers: Meet The Leaders Driving Change'.
Which talk are you most excited about?
I'm excited to speak on both panels but especially the ‘Influencer Insights and Social Commerce’ as I have views that could come across as a surprise to some!
What are your favorite sustainable brands at Bloomingdale’s?
I love that Bloomingdales has an Eco-Positive edit on the website! Personally, I love Veja as a sustainable shoe brand.
