The brand celebrates color, with the bright and animated designs becoming a signature style. Created in 1953 by founders Ottavio and Rosita Missoni who set up a small knitwear workshop in Gallarate, Italy, went on to build an iconic brand. Whilst Ottavio was the pattern designer, Rosita would cut the shapes of the garments, leading to the creation of their famously recognizable chevron zigzag pattern. Missoni designs were championed in the US by Diana Vreeland, editor of American Vogue at the time, which led to the first Missoni boutique being opened in New York’s Bloomingdales in 1970.
